“Try to be a Rainbow in someone’s Cloud”

It all started with a simple ‘Call for Help’ in the otherwise light hearted WhatsApp group JU ETCE 87-91 after Cyclone Amphan left a trail of devastation in the villages of West Bengal.

The group deliberated the options of a onetime financial support vs a sustainable longer term initiative. The choice for the latter was unanimous.

The Class of ’91, Electronics and Telecom Engineering then formally approached the officials at Jadavpur University to carry out the initiative as a project under the auspices of Jadavpur University Community Outreach program.

The proposal was discussed with the Respected Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University Prof. Suranjan Das and he kindly agreed to endorse the project on behalf of Jadavpur University. The University constituted an Administrative Committee to monitor the project and take operational decisions on the way forward.

The emotions of the beneficiaries were palpable as they shared their sentiments and acknowledgement of the impact of Project CHHAD.
All of them shared how their homes were damaged in Amphan and how the new “pucca” houses will protect them from any future natural calamity .
